Which production jobs are available in the Netherlands?

You’ll find production jobs in the Netherlands at different levels of responsibility and technical sophistication. 

Lower level (work immediately, no experience required):

1. Production worker – basic tasks related to machine operation, packaging, labelling or assembly. You do not need special qualifications to do this type of work. The employer provides training.

2. Assembly line worker – assembly of parts and components, operation of the production line. 

3. Packer – packing of products, labelling, preparing goods for shipment.

4. Fruit / vegetable packer – work with packaging and sorting of fruit and vegetables.

Higher levels (requires additional skills and training):

6. Warehouse employee (requires forklift operator certificate, so called heftruck certificaat) – inventory management, receiving and issuing goods, working with warehouse systems.

7. Quality controller (may require training in quality standards such as ISO and certifications of quality control and process analysis skills) – monitor production quality, conduct tests, report non-conformities.

8. Shift supervisor – supervise shift workers, coordinate work, troubleshoot problems. 

9. Maintenance technician (requires technical qualifications and certificates related to electrical engineering, mechanics or automation) – taking care of technical efficiency of machine and equipment, repairing breakdowns. 

10. Machine operator (requires training in production machinery or machine safety certificates) – operation, maintenance and supervision of production machinery.

Who can work as a production worker in the Netherlands?

You do not need any special qualifications or experience to do simple production work. What is important, however, is your physical fitness, manual skills, good organisational skills and the willingness to work. Do you need to know the language?

In addition, working in positions such as sausage worker or in food production in general, takes place in temperature-controlled halls. In such conditions, it is necessary to wear appropriate protective clothing to keep warm and comfortable while working. Depending on the production and food restrictions in force in the factory, temperatures range from 0°C to -25°C. 

Importantly, hygiene and occupational safety must be strictly adhered to. Workers must be willing to learn and follow specific instructions for their workplaces.

Employees doing this type of work usually work two/three shifts. If you like a flexible schedule, shift work will suit you. It will allow you to get important errands done without taking time off and plan activities beyond the weekend.

Is production work in the Netherlands a profitable job?
